With an engaging stage presence and a rich, exciting soprano voice, Erica Warder is a young artist with the drive, knowledge and passion to sing.
Erica made her debut with Pacific Opera Victoria this past April, singing the role of Barbarina in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro. Other recent operatic roles include Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Aurore in Massenet’s Le Portrait de Manon, Oberto in Handel’s Alcina, Susanna in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, and La Fée in Massenet’s Le Cedrillon, which was the first staged opera in the Royal Conservatory’s Koerner Hall.
As comfortable on the concert stage as the opera stage, Erica has performed recently with the Oakville Choral Society, Hart House Choir, the North York Concert Orchestra, the International Symphony Orchestra, and the Kingston Symphony Orchestra. Making her professional debut with the Kingston Symphony Orchestra, Erica sang Mozart’s “Exsultate, jubilate”, which has become one of her favourite pieces in her repertoire.
Because of her strong affinity for early music, Erica recently participated in Victoria Conservatory of Music’s Summer Oratorio Academy, where she performed excerpts from Handel’s Athalia, under the baton of Laurence Cummings. She has also participated in Tafelmusik’s Baroque Summer Institute and was recently chosen to sing in a Master Class with English Soprano Joanne Lunn as part of Tafelmusik’s Mentors program. Erica performed ‘No no I’ll take no less’ from Handel’s Semele to which Ms. Lunn commented that “Erica has an ease and fluidity in coloratura passages that is quite breathtaking!”
Erica’s recent awards and prizes include a First Place prize at the NYCO Mozart Competition, being named a 2012 Laureate of Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques du Canada, and winning a First Place prize at Queen’s University’s Annual Concerto competition.
Erica has participated in many training programs, including Flagstaff in Fidenza, where she performed the role of Susanna in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro with full professional orchestra in Fidenza, Italy. In July, Erica will be participating in the Advanced Oratorio program at the Victoria Conservatory of Music’s Music Academy.
A native of Petrolia, Ontario, Erica holds a Bachelor of Music Degree with Honours from Queen’s University and an Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School of Music. A lover of comedy, she recently completed her first Improv program through the Second City Training Centre in Toronto.
